If part of your tooth is damaged, worn, or affected by decay, your dentist may recommend an inlay or onlay to restore its strength and appearance. These treatments are often used when a standard filling isn't strong enough, but a crown isn't needed. Inlays and onlays are designed to repair your tooth while preserving as much of your natural tooth as possible, helping to protect it from further damage.
Inlays and onlays are often recommended for larger cavities or areas of damage where a filling wouldn’t provide enough strength.
Inlays fit neatly inside the tooth (similar to a filling). Onlays cover a larger area and may extend over the biting surface to rebuild damaged or fractured parts of the tooth, and are most commonly used on back teeth, which experience the greatest chewing pressure.
In some cases, you may also choose to replace old silver fillings with a more natural-looking inlay or onlay. Your dentist can remove the existing filling, clean the tooth, and restore it with a tooth-coloured alternative.

Inlays and onlays are usually made from porcelain or composite resin. These materials are strong, long-lasting, and colour-matched to blend naturally with your teeth. Gold inlays and onlays may also be suitable in some cases, although they are more noticeable.

I have been a patient at this practice for many years and have always been impressed by the helpful staff and professionalism of all concerned. Over recent times I have been looked after by Mark Trueman who has been so welcoming and reassuring. He always finds time to ask about my health and life, making the whole experience a very positive one. His reassuring manner helps me to relax, and any necessary dental work is carried out with the minimum of fuss, whilst informing me of what is taking place as the treatment is proceeding. Thank you Mark, and all the team at Capel Dental Care Surgery.
Fantastic atmosphere. I have a huge phobia of dentists and apart from an emergency at another dentist, I hadn't been for 40 years. The staff were very friendly and I felt at ease, the dentist explained everything in detail and I would recommend this dentist and the practice highly to anyone looking for a dentist .
