What happens at a dental health check-up?
At your first appointment, your dentist will take a full medical and dental history to gain a clear understanding of your individual needs. X-rays may be taken if clinically necessary, as these can help assess the health of your teeth and jaw and identify any issues that may not be visible during a visual examination.
At every dental health check-up, your dentist will:
- Examine your mouth, teeth and gums
- Test for signs of gum disease
- Carry out mouth cancer screening
- Take x-rays if needed
- Offer dental health advice and guidance
- Refer you to a dental hygienist if appropriate
If any concerns are identified, your dentist will discuss these with you and provide tailored advice or a treatment plan where required.
